Unilever Crowns Ideatrophy’s Second Edition Winners

Team Lifebuoy Musketeers Defeats the Competition

After a keenly contested battle, Paul Owolabi, Williams Adeyemi and Brenda Agidi – the three members of Team Lifebuoy Musketeers – from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, emerged winners of the second edition of Unilever Nigeria’s Ideatrophy Competition.

The competition winners, who were crowned champions at the Grand Finale of the competition which held in early August 2012, successfully defeated six other teams from across the country’s Universities for the top prize.

According to Unilever Nigeria’s Managing Director, Thabo Mabe, the winning team certainly deserved their victory. “At the zonal and final competitions, Team Lifebuoy Musketeers brilliantly analysed the business case they were presented with and came up with practical winning ideas,” he noted. “They certainly deserve to be this edition’s winner, also based on the confidence and strong presentation skills they displayed, which brought their ideas to life,” he added.

Ideatrophy, also preparing undergraduates for the world of work

Members of the winning team could hardly contain their excitement.

Brenda Agidi, a member of the winning team, who is a 400 level Geology student at Ahmadu Bello University, said winning the competition gave her an “indescribable sense of achievement”.

“Apart from winning the competition, being part of Ideatrophy has been a life changing experience. Throughout this process, I have learnt so much about the world of business and how to develop potent strategies that can win in the marketplace. These will certainly be useful tools, as I undertake the final stages of my degree course,” she stated.

Unilever Nigeria’s Human Resources Director, Tolulope Agiri, also stressed how the Ideatrophy competition was focused on sharpening the potentials of home-grown talent.

“As Unilever Africa, we are committed to developing African talent, and the Ideatrophy competition gives us the opportunity to do this right from the University level,” she said. “By connecting with undergraduates through this programme, we are able to attract and invest in young talent that could eventually join our business and be groomed to become some of the world’s best future leaders,” she added.

A two-fold prize for the winner

Team Lifebuoy Musketeers, as winners of the Ideatrophy Competition will visit South Africa where they will meet with and present their winning ideas to Senior Leadership members of Unilever’s Africa business.

In addition, the winning team has earned an automatic spot to compete with other Ideatrophy competition winners from across the globe, and stand the chance to win the ultimate global trophy!

2012 Ideatrophy Prizes

The winning team from this year’s competition will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Unilever’s Regional office in South Africa, in addition to carting away ipads.

Other participants in the competition also stand the chance to win laptops and blackberry smartphones.
