‘Royco Fuata Flava’ Kenya’s first competitive reality cooking show

Royco introduces a reality cooking show

Royco, one of Unilever’s flagship brands in East Africa, and which has been in the market for more than three decades, made yet another first last year by introducing a reality cooking show that took over television by storm.

For the first time in Kenya, a real celebration of food was given a competitive twist through a TV series that sought to entertain and educate the viewers as well as give them a unique preview into the world of Royco. The show which took place from September to December 2014 featured 36 contestants with the winner, Amanda Gicharu 28, walking away with 1 Million Kenya Shillings.

“We sought out to deliver a national dish by following the flavour which is the English version of Fuata Flava. The campaign was targeted to mothers who are seeking the extra kick in their meals. They care for their families and therefore would like to do something special for them once in a while despite their busy schedules.” explained Adan Simpirre, Savoury Category Manager for Unilever East Africa.

Fuata Flava experience reaffirmed Unilever’s commitment of improving health and wellbeing and enhancing livelihoods for all. The show also strengthened Royco’s position as a natural brand, one that can be used in everyday meals and actually brings out the joy and immense pleasure of food.

Organizers of the show expressed optimism of a bigger and better reality series in 2015.
