Omo bags Asia/AMET activation awards

In the month of April, Unilever Nigeria's Omo brand team won the Asia/AMET Activation Awards.

Omo wins Asia/AMET activation awards

At an Asia/AMET leadership event in Dubai held in April, the VC/CEO, Unilever Nigeria, Gunender Kapur, received, on behalf of Unilever Nigeria, and the Omo Brand team, the Silver medal for being first runner up in the prestigious 2005 Asia/AMET Activation awards.

It is indeed an ‘Award of Significance’ for Unilever Nigeria in three respects:

  • It is the very first activation award to be won by the company.
  • It is the very first Silver Medal in the Awards that brought together two previous initiatives; the Asia Brand Experience Awards and the AMET Activation Awards.
  • Being runner up, behind Australia, makes Omo DIG the best Activation in AMET in 2005

To underscore the importance of this achievement, Mr. Ajith Babu, the Senior Vice President, Laundry, AMET was in Nigeria to present the trophy to the Omo team, supported by Tim Rump, the

Marketing Director and Gunendar Kapur, the VC/CEO. They charged the team to see the award as a ‘tonic’ to drive Omo growth in Nigeria, which is now top of the company’s agenda.

In an e-mail to the Nigerian team, Vikas Gupta, representing the Marketing Excellence team based in London said “the Nigerian launch of Omo DIG qualifies as solid best practice”. The success of the team may be attributed to the fact that they “began the process with the end in mind”. At the Activation Workshop held in June 2005 to agree ideas and implementation, the charge to the team was “let’s land DIG in Nigeria brilliantly, with the intention to drive double digit growth in Omo and win the Activation Awards”. That objective has been fully realised; Omo grew 40%, and won the awards! DIG puts Omo at the centre of Child Development; an attempt to help show the way balanced development can be achieved when children are allowed to play outdoors and explore. This message is big, and will unfold even more going into 2006. The objective would be realised when Nigeria is turned into one huge field, with children learning and discovering through play; of course with the adults participating and Omo there to take out the stains. Credit is given to the Nigerian Children, who have been part of this activation, our Partner Agencies, and the distinguished Nigerian Mothers who endorsed the intiative, especially Senator Daisy Danjuma, Hon.Saudatu Sani, Prof Dora Akunyili and many more.
