Unilever rewards 100 students with school fees
The amount was granted to Secondary School students from different parts of the country under Unilever’s Chuo Club Program.
NAIROBI: Wednesday, August 24th, 2016 – Consumer goods Company, Unilever, has today rewarded 100 secondary school students with more than Ksh. 3.5 million worth of school fees and tablet devices through a back-to-school shopping reward programme dubbed Chuo Club.
The students, who are drawn from various regions across the country, received amounts ranging from Kshs. 20,000 to Kshs. 100,000 to cater for their school fees and tablet devices to improve and aid in their learning experiences.
Out of the 100 students, five received Kshs. 100,000 each, 30 received Kshs. 50,000 each; 50 received Kshs. 20,000 each while 15 students each received a tablet device worth Kshs. 35,000.
Speaking during the Chuo Club Winners Award Presentation Ceremony, Unilever East Africa’s Marketing Director for Foods and Refreshments, Agnes Kitololo said: “As a company, we believe that education is at the core of human development and societal progress. It has the power to transform lives and is essential to our nation’s prosperity. We hope that the school fees will not only help keep our children in school but will boost their morale and quest for learning, eventually translating to a brighter future for the students and our country.”
Unilever Kenya launched the Chuo Club Program in January 2016 and has since partnered with over 200 stores countrywide and is aligned to Unilever’s Sustainable Living Plan that seeks to grow the company’s business footprint while increasing positive social impact.
“Through the program, we reiterate Unilever’s commitment to Kenyan students towards making their back-to-school experience more fulfilling and worthwhile,” added Kitololo.
In order to win, students and their parents/guardians are required to buy Unilever’s products from selected countrywide, register and stand a chance to win.
“My parents and I are happy to be part of the Chuo Club program. The Kshs 100,000 awarded to me will greatly ease my parent’s financial burden and most importantly give me peace of mind to study and focus during my exams,” said Lucy Kyalo a student at Tala Girls secondary school, who was among the students awarded during the Chuo Club Winners Presentation Ceremony in Nairobi.
The Chuo Club program is aligned with Unilever’s Sustainable Living Plan which seeks to achieve the Company’s vision to grow its business while increasing positive social impact and has the long term objectives of enhancing lives by growing and nurturing future leaders through education.
